Dear Friends,
I am so pleased to welcome you to the official website for the International Commission of Peace. The last year has been a wonderful time of renewal of friendships with supporters and visitors that we know and love, as well as a chance to meet and come into contact with new friends who have only recently discovered the International Commission of Peace.
Our most valuable asset is the collection of global citizens whose lives have been touched by the International Commission of Peace, including, internationally, the students of the Universite Laique Adventtiste De Kigali in Kigali, Rwanda, and nationally (and most recently), the students at Dorris Day Elementary School in Los Angeles, California. Observing the students develop critical skills to enrich their lives and others is what keeps us passionate about our mission.
We invite you to share in the excitement as we begin to revitalize this outstanding organization. With a new management team, a dedicated board of directors, and more and more volunteers joining our mission every day, we have accomplished a lot over the past four years, but there is still much to be done. We have two very important goals for 2010: (1) to continue to train bright and motivated young scholars in core conflict resolution skills and empowering them to spread these skills throughout their communities and across the region, and (2) to increase the number of volunteers electing to be part of the Kigali Campaign.
Many people do not realize that the International Commission of Peace currently receives less than half of its revenue from program fees and relies very significantly on the generosity of individual donors and private foundations for financial viability. Each of you has a stake in the future of the International Commission of Peace, and we encourage you to continue to help keep the International Commission of Peace a vibrant organization.
Thank you very much for supporting us and for making the International Commission of Peace an important part of the global community. Together, we can Make Peace as Powerful a Word as War.
Sincerely,
Brett Bachmann
